Upper-level tickets now available

PHOENIX –Limited lower-level tickets remain for the WNBA Champion Phoenix Mercury’s May 17 home opener. Upper-level tickets are now available and are just $10. The matinee, which tips off at 12:30 p.m. at US Airways Center, will feature a Western Conference matchup between the Mercury and the Los Angeles Sparks. Doors open at 11 a.m.

“The response for tickets to attend the Championship Saturday festivities has been overwhelming,” said Mercury President and COO Jay Parry. “Tickets are going fast and we encourage fans to purchase quickly before they are all sold.”

The 2008 opener, which will be featured on ABC, includes a showdown between the Mercury and its All-Star guards Diana Taurasi and Cappie Pondexter and the Los Angeles Sparks eight-time All-Star Lisa Leslie. Leslie returns after a one-year hiatus from the WNBA after giving birth to her first child. The matchup will also feature the highly-anticipated debut of this year’s No. 1 WNBA draft pick Candace Parker.

Upon entry, 5,000 lucky fans will receive WNBA Championship replica rings courtesy of the Arizona Lottery. The highlight of Championship Saturday will be the ring presentation to players and coaches as well as the unveiling of the 2007 WNBA Championship banner. Both will be held prior to tip-off at approximately noon on the main court at US Airways Center.
