Limited number of lower-level tickets available for Championship Saturday

PHOENIX – On Thursday, April 10 beginning at 10:00 a.m. tickets to the WNBA Champion Phoenix Mercury home opener on Saturday, May 17 will go on sale to the public. Championship Saturday will tip-off at 12:30 p.m. at US Airways Center and feature a West Coast match-up between the Mercury and the Los Angeles Sparks. A limited number of lower-level tickets are available and start at just $10.

Upon entry, 5,000 lucky fans will receive WNBA Championship replica rings courtesy of the Arizona Lottery. The highlight of Championship Saturday will be the ring presentation to players and coaches as well as the raising of the 2007 WNBA Championship banner. Both will be held prior to tip-off on the main court at US Airways Center.

In 2007, the Phoenix Mercury became the first team in WNBA history to win a title on the road. On September 16, 2007, the Mercury defeated the Detroit Shock in five games and captured the first professional basketball championship in the Valley.

The 2008 opener, which will be featured on ABC, includes a showdown between the Mercury and its All-Star guards Diana Taurasi and Cappie Pondexter and the Los Angeles Sparks eight-time All-Star Lisa Leslie. Leslie returns after a one-year hiatus from the WNBA after giving birth to her first child. The Sparks roster will also include this year’s No. 1 WNBA draft pick. The draft is slated for Wednesday, April 9, following the championship game of the NCAA Tournament.
