WORLD WILDLIFE FUND’S EARTH HOUR CAMPAIGN

Venue to turn out lights for one hour as part of international campaign to combat climate change

PHOENIX – US Airways Center will participate in the international climate change campaign, Earth Hour, a movement that aims to have everyone including individuals and businesses in Phoenix turn out the lights for one hour, from 8 – 9 PM on Saturday, March 29.

The movement is designed to demonstrate that each person has an ability to make an impact on climate change. By making small changes in everyday routines to reduce energy consumption, individuals can make a positive impact in the fight against this global issue.

Phoenix is one of 25 official cities chosen by World Wildlife Fund, across the world participating in the movement. Other cities include Atlanta, San Francisco, Chicago, Bangkok, Copenhagen, Dublin, Melbourne, Montreal, Toronto, Tel Aviv and Vancouver, among others.

While the lights are out, people are encouraged to replace their energy-wasting light bulbs with new, energy-saving compact fluorescents and think about how they can help slow climate change and trim carbon dioxide emissions at home, in their neighborhood, city, and at their workplace.

Earth Hour started last year in Sydney, Australia. More than 2 million people and thousands of businesses turned out their lights. Power consumption dropped more than 10 percent in that single hour.
